President Gerald R. Ford
With the passing of Former President Gerald Ford, the only Michiganian to ever become president, you might be interested in a publication that gives kids some information about the life of this leader. Go to the Michigan History magazine website and download the Gerald Ford issue of The Mitten for free. (Sorry, they no longer have copies to sell.) Statehood Day 2008
A Statehood Day Celebration. Celebrate the 171st anniversary of Michigan’s entry into the Union at the Michigan Historical Museum in downtown Lansing, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2008. This year’s celebration is titled “Proud of the Past, Positive about the Future.” Tour the museum galleries to learn more about Michigan, its citizens and their accomplishments. You will enjoy presenters, costumed interpreters, musical performances and hands-on activities highlighting Michigan milestones.
